Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that residents of the capital should decide on the future of Desiatynna Church in Kyiv.
"It is all Kyivans, not only officials of Kyiv City State Administration or several priests that should settle the situation with Desiatynna Church, one of the most prominent monuments of Kyivan Rus," M.Tomenko stressed.
The Deputy Chairman stated that some officials and politicians are planning to overbuild the foundation of one of the most outstanding monuments in Ukrainian history. "However, this idea is not supported by the experts, local residents and the whole society," he stressed. "The only possible democratic, fair, and competent solution of this issue is putting the future of the church to a local referendum," M.Tomenko stated.
